Real Estate Investing Club ? Quick Facts | welcome to feenix.info

A good number of aspiring investors and entrepreneurs consider real estate investing, but there are some who are reluctant to give it a try because they are scared to tread in the waters of an unfamiliar business. This does not come as a surprise though, because real estate can be quite difficult to sail without knowledge, experience, and support. The great news is, any investor who wishes to be supported by people who share the same endeavor can join a real estate investing club.

A real estate investing club is a type of organization where people with common interests work together and share valuable information and personal experiences with one another. As opposed to stocks investment clubs where members meet in order to make contributions in joint accounts, real estate club members do not meet to make investments. Rather, the members meet collectively in order to share valuable information and past and present experiences with one another. Real estate price trends and strategies are also spoken about so that members can take full advantage of the current circumstances.

A real estate investing club is one of the best places to network with expert investors from various fields of real estate. These expert individuals normally offer the proper instruments that can help you make wise decisions before making investments. And because real estate clubs sponsor seminars once in a while, one can listen to educational talks from invited guest speakers from all across the globe. Hence, people who would like to make global real estate investments can obtain powerful insights about the great possibilities abroad.

Becoming a member of a real estate investing club is a personal call. Novice investors are not obligated to join one, but if they feel that they need the assistance of other people with the same business, then participating in one would be their best move. A large number of investors claim that much of their accomplishments are due to the education, support, and encouragement that they received from such clubs. With that said, if you want to learn the tricks of the trade and be surrounded with a group from which to draw inspiration and motivation, joining a real estate investing club is the best way to go.

UK committee concerned about Olympic security cost

LONDON (AP) ? The 2012 London Olympics run a serious risk of going over budget, a British government committee warned Friday, complaining that unexpectedly staggering security costs will make it hard to stick to the 9.3 billion pound ($14.6 billion) spending plan.

While the Olympic venues and other infrastructure are nearly done, signs are worrying for delivering the games and related future programs on budget, said Margaret Hodge, the chair of the Public Accounts Committee, and could potentially force Olympic officials to turn to taxpayers in already tough economic times.

Government officials have insisted the games will be on time and within budget, but with planned security costs alone exceeding 1 billion pounds ($1.6 billion), those promises are increasingly under strain.

"We are particularly concerned about the significant increases in the security bill," said Margaret Hodge, the chair of the Public Accounts Committee, in a statement.

The organizing committee "now needs more than twice the number of security guards it originally estimated and the costs have roughly doubled. It is staggering that the original estimates were so wrong."

The high cost of the games has already sparked resentment from some Londoners angry over the expensive plans at a time the government is preaching austerity and cutting programs.

Games organizers have said that final security plans had to wait until arrangements to actually stage the games were in place. The chair of London's organizing committee, Sebastian Coe, further defended organizers, saying that planners had to work with the information that they had at the time.

"I think it will come together in a proper and orderly way and will come together at the end of project," Coe told reporters at a conference in Spain.

Britain's Department for Media Culture and Sport also vigorously rejected the report's findings, insisting that the government has more than 500 million pounds ($788,820) in funds that haven't been committed to other purposes.

"We are in a strong position and, while we can't be complacent, are confident that we can deliver the games under budget," the department's statement said.

The highly critical report comes three months after Britain's independent National Audit Office also concluded that the public sector funding package was "so finely balanced" that there was a real risk more money will be needed.

The oversight committee said that funding package "does not cover the totality of the costs to the public purse of delivering the Games and their legacy, which are already heading for around 11 billion pounds ($17 billion).

The higher figure comes in part from a dispute over whether to include the cost of purchasing Olympic Park land in the overall costs of the games. The government argues it shouldn't, because the money will be returned through land sales after the games.

The oversight report had sharp words for organizers and the government about the legacy of the games, such as the fate of big ticket venues like the Olympic Stadium and programs to get young people involved in sports. Hodge demanded accountability and said the stadium must not become a "white elephant."

"The government is dispersing responsibility for delivering the legacy and we need clarity about who is accountable," Hodge wrote. "Given the scale of costs outside the funding package, what we need within six months of the end of the Olympics is a single auditable account covering the total costs to the public of the games and their legacy."

Security is so expensive for the Olympics because of fears of terrorism. A terror attack at the 1972 Olympics in Munich killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches. London has been hit by its own terror attack: Four suicide bombers targeted the city's transit network in 2005, killing 52 commuters.

The British government is planning to identify the national terror threat as "severe" during the Olympics, meaning an attempted attack is highly likely.

Initial security reviews put the number of security guards for the games at 10,000 ? the overall security work force is now at 23,700. Thousands of soldiers are now also part of the mix to keep the July 27-Aug. 12 event safe.

Those numbers are in addition to the 12,000 police officers that will also be on duty on the busiest days of the games.

The government said the additional money was needed to make venues and other sensitive sites, such as hotels, more secure. The total cost of securing the venues has climbed to more than 553 million pounds ($862 million).

Although Britain's Home Office initially budgeted 600 million pounds ($940 million) for that, that number has been trimmed to 475 million pounds ($745 million).

How I Became the Worst Gamer in the World | Ryan Geddes

This morning, my nine-month-old son knocked over a pile of unwrapped videogames stacked at the edge of my entertainment center. Actually, his hand brushed against them while I danced around the living room with him in my arms. We were listening to Squeeze records, and Pulling Mussels (From a Shell) was on. It is our favorite. My first instinct was to curse under my breath, but I was out of it. Dancing like an idiot is taxing enough when you are not lugging 20 pounds of giggling baby around the room with you. So instead, I just smiled. Or, rather, I continued smiling. Lately, if the timing?s right, I sometimes find it tough to stop. And that?s a good thing, right?

It?s 6:00 a.m., and I?ve been awake for an hour, which is ridiculous. At this time last year, I was still following my pre-baby pattern. Play videogames (sometimes for work, sometimes not) late into the night, fall into bed whenever the feeling struck me, and roll out again at an hour that would allow me to magically appear in the office before my employees. It the world of videogame journalism, that was not hard to do. To most of my coworkers, 10:00 a.m. was the most civilized time morning had to offer, and they grudgingly accepted it as the work day?s starting point, like foreigners ordering in a questionable restaurant.

Back then, the thought of stacking a bunch of un-played games in the corner of my house would have been unthinkable. I should at least open them, right? Throw them in and try them out? When I was writing about games for a living, I had a five-minute rule. Fire up a game, sit back, and start playing. If it didn?t grab my attention in five minutes, I quit and grabbed something else. But these days, I don?t even have time to indulge the five-minute rule.

Let me tell you something about babies. They don?t sleep as much as you might think. For the first week or so, they lull you into a false sense of security, dozing most of the day and night, waking only to blink and eat. I remember sitting on the couch in the afternoon during my paternity leave, the shades in my California apartment drawn tight so my newest family member could doze in the cradle beside me. I played Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes HD for hours on end, thrilled that fatherhood hadn?t hampered my gaming life. If anything, it had improved it. The company that paid me to play games had generously given me a few weeks off to adjust to life with baby. And I was spending a remarkable amount of that time playing games. Suckers!

But, like a demonic antagonist in a videogame, a newborn baby soon wakes from its slumber to bathe the land in blood and fire. The townspeople knew all along that the beast?s sleep was a tenuous illusion. But they chose to ignore it. They went about their lives, one eye always on the cave at the top of the mountain, ears pricked for the slightest sound of rumbling.

Parents do this too. ?Maybe our baby will be different,? they tell each other. ?Maybe he will sleep through the night from the beginning.? But they know. Deep down, they know. Soon my son was doing what normal infants do: sleeping for a few hours, waking up to eat, sleeping a bit more, waking up to be active, sleeping a bit more. At first, it?s a shock to the parent?s system. Living your life in two-hour intervals forces you to view the world differently. ?What should I do tonight?? becomes: ?In about an hour, I will have two hours to myself, at best. I have seven hours worth of things to do, including personal grooming, banking, home repair, family communication, eating, entertaining myself and sleeping.? By the time you finish that thought, your body has succumbed to the latter.

New parent, or zombie? Best to shoot first.

It gets better. So goes the mantra of the Kindly Parental Stranger. They?re everywhere, these people. Shopping malls, grocery stores, parks, restaurants. They sense the plight of the new parent like a Scientologist can sniff out a vulnerable actor. When my son started waking up at all hours of the night to recreationally scream and poop, I would take long walks with him during the day, mainly to get out of the house, which had begun to smell like a combination of Wal-Mart and the Humane Society. On my walks, they would always find me. At the time, it annoyed me. Am I really doing such a horrible job at as a new dad that this middle-aged women needs to stop me, lay a blinged-out hand on my shoulder and reassure me that ?it gets better??

In retrospect, I realize they were just trying to help. I must have looked like a zombie, shambling along the sidewalk, squinting in the sunlight, clothes covered in all manner of crust and fluid. They knew what I needed to hear. But I wasn?t ready to listen yet. I was too stuck in the past and the future to pay attention to the moment.

Becoming a parent, shocker of shockers, puts things in perspective. And I assure you I mean that it the most cliche, standard, stereotypical way possible. There?s no other way to describe it. It makes you evaluate everything you spent your time doing before your baby was born. It makes you picture the next half of your life, baby in tow. It makes you question your judgment in just about every situation. It makes you think about what sort of person you want to be. It makes you normal.

By the time things level out and the baby is on a semi-standard schedule of being awake for the majority of the day and sleeping for a few hours at night, you?ve completely reevaluated your entire existence and adjusted to a life without sleep, restaurants and all-night gaming sessions. So there you are, at 7 p.m., on the couch. Work is done. Dinner is done. You and your partner have downloaded your days (and your child?s) to one another. The baby is asleep and probably will be for a few more hours before he wakes up, struck by the unshakable certainty that an immediate bottle of milk is absolutely essential for continued existence. What do you do?

Somehow, the idea of playing a videogame seems pointless. Why escape into a world of high fantasy and epic adventure, when those things await me in my dreams? By sleeping I can accomplish two things at once (a new parent?s obsession). I can recharge my frail and sickly body, and retreat into a fantasy world of blissful, blank sleep. In the land of slumber, there are no screaming babies, unwashed bottles, piling laundry, unmanageable work schedules or doctor?s appointments. And if you?re lucky, there may even be unicorns in your dreams, handing you shotguns and telling you how awesome you are.

When I have time that doesn?t involve baby or work, I choose to spend it alone with my wife, take care of things around the house, and write, usually in that order. And when I?ve done all those things to everyone?s satisfaction and I somehow find myself with leftover time, I consider playing games. But most of the time, I just can?t seem to make myself care.

I mean, c'mon.

A few days back, I had the house to myself for a couple hours. I sat in my living room chair and stared at my unfinished copies of Gears of War 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Battlefield 3. But instead of seeing a pile of potential entertainment energy poised to blow me away, I saw work. Where did I even leave off in Skyrim? What perks had I chosen? What the hell is even going on in that game? What was with those flying skin blimps in Gears 3? Did I get past that part or not? Do I even care? And forget about Battlefield 3. Am I really up for learning how to fly a jet right now? I woke up an hour later, sprawled in the chair, drooling. I am the most pathetic gamer of all time.

Like infants, today?s big-budget console and PC games are serious commitments. They demand your undivided attention for long periods of time. And yes, the very best ones reward you deeply for putting in the effort. But I only have so much room in my life for serious investments. And the smiling, happy, adoring baby always wins. And if I?m honest, he makes me happier than any cutscene ever did.

For most new dads, a slow drift away from the normal gaming routine would be merely depressing. But I still work in (and love) the videogame business ? I?m on the developer side of things now. So the fact that I?m not playing many games for fun also makes me feel like I?m shirking my professional duty to keep up with the latest and greatest in a business that moves with lightning speed. I justify my game withdrawal a bit by acknowledging that I just spent the last seven months launching a game, a process that is both exhilarating and barbaric. But mostly, I feel guilty.

In recent months, I?ve thought a lot about those well-meaning women who stopped me on the street to reassure me about the future. As my son has gotten older, so much of parenting actually has gotten easier. So much has happened ? scary, happy, uncategorizable ? that I?ve been forced to move past my internal expectations and accept the uncertainty. Because, with baby or without, there?s really only one reality worth embracing. And that?s the one happening right now, in this exact moment.

I know, I know. That reads like a pile of sentimental, cosmic crap. And maybe it is. But when my kid is beaming at me while I sing and whirl around the room, and we?re knocking things aside to make way for our silly, reckless exploration, I really just don?t care.

Things are changing though, as they always do. My son, crazy as it seems, is growing up. He looks less like a baby and more like a boy every day. And I can already tell that my time, and what I choose to do with it, is about to enter a new phase. I can feel myself being drawn back to my game consoles in a slow orbit. I?ve been downloading a few free-to-play games for PC and iPhone, just to ease myself back into a personal culture of gaming. And I?m trying to do it without the guilt or the relentless self-assessment that most new parents slip into without even noticing.

Last weekend I dug around in my attic to find my Nintendo DS collection. It?s been less than two years since the DS was a fixture in my life, but opening its piano-black case felt so foreign, so ancient somehow. I removed the games from their cases and turned them over in my hands. Tiny vessels, holding such massive worlds: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IX. I dusted off my collection and brought it downstairs to sit in the top drawer of my home office ? not for me, but for my son, who will open it one day and discover those worlds for himself. Probably sooner than I did.

As for me, I won?t make it back into the sprawling, overwhelming worlds of Skyrim or Battlefield for a few more months. But I?ll get there. Baby steps.

The Healthy Lifestyle - Stop Childhood Obesity

In this day and age of mass-advertising, social media, fast food restaurants, take out meals, and every imaginable distraction known to man, it is understandable that people are not living more active, healthy lives. ?However, the fact of the matter is that we don?t have a choice if we want to live long into the future and meet our grandkids and great grandkids. ?If we want to see what the next wave of technology will be, or if we want to see how our country and the world is going to shape up, then we need to remain vigilant about staying healthy. In this post, I hope to give you some very simple steps that you can take, day in and day out, to live a healthier lifestyle. This site is filled with ideas and??guides on how to be healthy, and this page should just make it that much simpler. ?So, let?s dive right in:

  1. Turn off the TV when eating.
    • It is estimated that people eat, on average, 500 or more calories each meal?when they are glued to the TV (or Hulu, or Netflix, or whatever other entertainment), versus people who sit and talk to each other without other distractions.
  2. Use smaller plates
    • Remember being told "There are starving children in Africa! You should feel lucky to get all this food, so eat up!"? ?Well, back when people said that, the meals were a bit healthier. ?Now they are crap (unless you cook at home yourself). ?So, instead of telling children to eat everything on their super-sized plates, try just using smaller serving dishes. ?This forces you to serve them smaller, and less calorie-rich meals.
  3. Do most of your shopping at the edges of the grocery store (start at the edges and fill your cart their first)
    • About 99.9% of the items in the aisles of grocery stores are crap. ?They have high amounts of processed sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, and little nutritional value. ?Stay in the edges where the fruits, veggies, fresh meats and seafoods, and dairy products are. ?If you load up in these areas (especially fruits and veggies), then you will have less room in your cart for crap, and thus healthier items at home.
  4. Be more active with regular activities (i.e. walking)
    • What I mean here is walk, don?t drive or use machines to do all the work for you. ?Try to use the stairs whenever possible, don?t use elevators. ?Park at the far end of the parking lot for a good walk into your office/store. ?And for goodness sake, stop using those stupid electric powered carts to get around unless you have a true disability (i.e. you?re paralyzed!!!!). ?Watch the Disney movie Wall-E?to see a very realistic example of how using machines degrades our health and fitness over time.

These are some simple yet effective ways to reduce your child?s caloric intake. ?Most of what is written here is aimed at the adults for a simple reason?.children will imitate you! ?So, start being proactive with your health choices, stop saying it?s too hard, and start working on that long life you have in mind. ?Doing so will have a trickle down effect for your children, and cause them to make some good choices as they grow up. ?If you need more information about specifics on meal planning and dietary information, please see our post on healthy eating habits.

A Business Lawyer & Your Company | Estate Planning & Legal Forms

A Business Lawyer & Your Company

Article by Abraham Avotina

Having a competent business lawyer at the ready for your company is a crucial part of a successful team. Running a business has never been more challenging. Today?s economic landscape is more competitive than ever and has made it imperative to dot your i?s and cross your t?s legally. Contracts, taxes, patents, employee issues, and startup legalities are complicated and must be done precisely in order to keep a company on top of regulations. How can a business owner create a high quality service or product and maintain a smooth running operation without the guidance of a seasoned attorney? Here are some things to think about regarding the legal expertise that may be needed:

Contracts: Contracts contain lots of fine print, and before a businessperson signs his or her name on the dotted line, he or she must understand the ramifications of the document. There may be loopholes or problems with the way it?s written that must be remedied before a signature is attached to it. Having a savvy attorney write or review contracts will make a huge difference.

Taxes: The taxes of a company are very complicated indeed, much more so than personal taxation. Payroll, quarterly, annual, sales and other taxes all must be completed accurately and paid promptly in order to be in compliance with governmental and IRS regulations.

Patents: When a business invents a new product, it must be patented to keep others from infringing on copyright issues. If using someone else?s design, a manager must ascertain patent rights to be within legal guidelines.

Employees: Workers are the lifeblood of the organization. They give their energy to the company. They are the face of the organization. Hiring the right employees will make a huge difference in the success of the company. In order for everything to run smoothly, their paperwork must be in order. Regulations regarding I-9?s, social security documents, workers? compensation insurance, immigration and much more must be adhered to, to the letter. Difficulties can create havoc within the company. Firings, layoffs, employee rights and more will require a knowledgeable business lawyer.

Startups: Starting a company is a complex procedure. Will it be a corporation, sole proprietorship, joint venture, or partnership? Whatever the format, it must be set up legally. Specific forms, records, boards and documents must be put into place in order to comply with business rules and regulations. Individuals that decide to form partnerships must have documents in place to protect all individuals. Before the new venture even takes off, business plans must be drafted, finances gathered and leases for equipment and office space signed for.

Running a company takes grit and perseverance. It also takes a solid team of professionals supporting its foundation. One important member of that team is a business lawyer. Without a competent legal professional on your side, it?s like walking a tightrope without a net.

The PJ Tatler ? Carbonite's Bad Business Decision

Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a ?slut.? He later apologized sincerely.

Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham a ?slut.? He never apologized* for that, sincerely or otherwise.

Carbonite has severed its advertising relationship with Rush. It continues advertising on Schultz?s show.

Rush Limbaugh audience: About 15 to 20 million, on hundreds of radio stations at all times of the day.

Ed Schultz audience: Nearly too tiny to measure, on one cable channel and a few dozen (maybe) radio stations.

On the basis of business alone, Carbonite has made a terrible decision. I know I?ll never use their product now, and the same is probably true for a large number of Rush?s audience once they hear of the Democrat-owned business? double standard. If there?s a neutral or conservative-owned online computer backup provider out there, they?ll starting getting some new business that Carbonite is destined to lose.

Unless, I guess, Carbonite suddenly picks up some new government contracts?

*Update: I was wrong about Schultz. He apologized to Laura Ingraham after he called her the same thing Rush called Fluke. Carbonite stuck with Schultz. So the double standard is there, and I?ve asked them about it.

Mitt hits 5 straight in Wash. (Politico)

SEATTLE ? Showing that organization does matter, Mitt Romney won Washington state?s caucuses Saturday.

The victory gives the former Massachusetts governor another boost going into Super Tuesday, when 10 states vote.

?The voters of Washington have sent a signal that they do not want a Washington insider in the White House,? Romney said in a three-paragraph statement. ?They want a conservative businessman who understands the private sector and knows how to get the federal government out of the way so that the economy can once again grow vigorously. With the support of Washington?s voters, I look forward with optimism to the primaries and caucuses to come.?

Romney ran up his margin in the counties around Puget Sound. In Snohomish County, a key bellwether just north of Seattle, Romney got twice as many votes as Rick Santorum, who was in a tight race with Ron Paul for second place.

It?s Romney?s fifth win in a row. Since his trio of losses to Santorum just less than a month ago, Romney has now won primaries in Michigan and Arizona and caucuses in Maine and Wyoming. With 60 percent of precincts reporting, Santorum narrowly trailed Paul for third place.

Washington?s caucuses are nonbinding, which means that someone besides Romney could still wind up winning most of the 43 delegates that will be awarded at the state convention in June. But for tonight, Romney is the winner and will carry the momentum out of the state.

Paul believes he could ultimately garner the most delegates. His supporters have worked for years to increase their influence in the state party organization.

All four candidates campaigned in Washington, but the Texas congressman is the only one who stuck around for caucus day. His opponents spent Saturday in Ohio, the main Tuesday battleground.

?We?re in a good second place,? Paul told supporters early in the night at a conference center along Seattle?s waterfront. ?The good news is we?re doing very, very well in getting delegates. That, as you know, takes a little bit of effort. You have to follow up ? One thing we know how to do is get delegates.?

?If we don?t do our job, if this message isn?t spread ? we will continue to lose,? Paul added. ?But let me tell you, the message I?m getting is the message is spreading. We do not know exactly what will come out of this campaign. We do know that the strategy of building up delegates is a pretty sound position.?

Even a second-place finish would be a disappointment for Paul, despite his efforts to downplay expectations in advance. He?s focused his energy on low-turnout caucuses where his supporters can have an outsize impact. He was the only candidate to spend money on television advertising in Washington, yet he?s been unable to win any contests ? caucuses or otherwise ? outright. He finished second in Maine, Minnesota and New Hampshire.

Only about 250 came to Paul?s election night event in a room that held 750. It was probably the lowest energy of all his caucus night events this year.

Romney and Paul built the best organizations here. They worked hard to make sure their supporters knew where to go and what to do in a state that hasn?t held only a caucus in a quarter century. Before this year, Washington split its delegates among a caucus and primary.

(AP) ? Encouraging defensive players to be aggressive, hit hard and not back down is standard procedure in pro football. Paying them to injure the opposition is not.

New Orleans Saints players and at least one assistant coach, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, maintained a bounty pool of up to $50,000 the last three seasons, the NFL said Friday. Payoffs came for inflicting game-ending injuries.

Among the targets were Brett Favre and Kurt Warner, with "knockouts" worth $1,500 and "cart-offs" $1,000. Payments doubled or tripled for the playoffs, and, according to an investigation by NFL security, pool amounts reached their height in 2009 ? the year the Saints won the Super Bowl.

"It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it," Williams said after the league said between 22 and 27 defensive players were involved in the program he administered, with the knowledge of coach Sean Payton.

"Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it. I take full responsibility for my role," added Williams, now the defensive coordinator in St. Louis. "I am truly sorry. I have learned a hard lesson and I guarantee that I will never participate in or allow this kind of activity to happen again."

Williams, the Saints organization and the players involved face hefty fines and possible suspensions. The team could lose draft picks when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hands out punishment.

"It is our responsibility to protect player safety and the integrity of our game, and this type of conduct will not be tolerated," Goodell said. "We have made significant progress in changing the culture with respect to player safety and we are not going to relent. We have more work to do and we will do it."

The NFL said its findings were corroborated by multiple, independent sources. Asked about potential criminal charges, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said:

"We believe that any violation of league rules should and will be handled by the commissioner."

All payouts for specific performances in a game, including interceptions or causing fumbles, are against NFL rules. The NFL also warns teams against such practices before each season.

Saints players contributed cash to the pool, at times large amounts, and in some cases the money pledged was directed against a specific person, the NFL said.

"The payments here are particularly troubling because they involved not just payments for 'performance,' but also for injuring opposing players," Goodell said in a statement. "The bounty rule promotes two key elements of NFL football: player safety and competitive integrity."

"Cart-offs" are defined by the NFL as a player being carried off the field; "knockouts" as when a player cannot return to the game.

The league absolved Saints owner Tom Benson of any blame, but said the investigation showed Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis knew about the "pay for performance" program.

"Although head coach Sean Payton was not a direct participant in the funding or administration of the program, he was aware of the allegations, did not make any detailed inquiry or otherwise seek to learn the facts, and failed to stop the bounty program. He never instructed his assistant coaches or players that a bounty program was improper and could not continue," the NFL said.

When informed about it earlier this year, the NFL said Benson directed Loomis to "ensure that any bounty program be discontinued immediately." However, the NFL's report said evidence showed Loomis didn't carry out Benson's directions and that in 2010 Loomis denied any knowledge of a bounty program.

"There is no evidence that Mr. Loomis took any effective action to stop these practices," the NFL said.

The NFL found no evidence of similar bounty programs within the league, but several Redskins told The Washington Post that Williams had a similar system as defensive coordinator for the team.

Former defensive end Philip Daniels, now Washington's director of player development, said he believed Williams paid off big hits with fines collected from players for being late to meetings or practices.

"Rather than pocket that money or whatever, he would redistribute it to players who had good games or good practices," said Daniels, who added the most he received was $1,500 for a four-sack game against Dallas in 2005.

"I think it is wrong the way they're trying to paint (Williams)," Daniels told the Post. "He never told us to go out there and break a guy's neck or break a guy's leg. It was all in the context of good, hard football."

Benson responded to the NFL's report saying: "I have been made aware of the NFL's findings relative to the 'Bounty Rule' and how it relates to our club. I have offered, and the NFL has received, our full cooperation in their investigation. While the findings may be troubling, we look forward to putting this behind us and winning more championships in the future for our fans."

The NFL's most infamous bounty case occurred in 1989 when Eagles coach Buddy Ryan was accused of putting a bounty on Cowboys players.

On Thanksgiving Day, Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson accused Ryan of putting a bounty on Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman and placekicker Luis Zendejas before a 27-0 Philadelphia victory. Ryan and his players denied the charges and NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The NFL began its Saints investigation in early 2010 after allegations surfaced that quarterbacks Warner of Arizona and Favre of Minnesota had been targeted. After interviewing several Saints who denied the bounty program existed and after the player who originally made the allegations recanted, the league couldn't prove anything.

However, Goodell said the NFL "recently received significant and credible new information and the investigation was re-opened during the latter part of the 2011 season."

Warner, who retired after the 2009 season, responded to a fan's comment on Twitter that even if the Saints had a bounty program a playoff hit on Warner was clean. Warner tweeted, "I would have to agree with you!!!"

"I don't want to say that there was an attempt to injure, but I definitely think there were games where I could tell you that it seemed that they went beyond what was normal in regard to when they were going to hit me or how they were going to hit me," Warner said on the NFL Network. "Again, not with the intention necessarily of hurting me, but knocking me out of my game to get me to think about things differently. If by chance they hit me and knocked me out of the game, maybe that's a benefit for them."

Favre's agent, Bus Cook, said he was unaware of the investigation until Friday. He said the Saints should have been penalized for several hard, late hits during the 2009 NFC championship game and that he believed the contact was not coincidental.

"It was pretty obvious that the intent was to take Brett out of the game, and it happened the week before with Kurt Warner, too," Cook said. "I don't know anything about whether it was by design or whatever, but I think a lot of people shared that same viewpoint that there were some hits that didn't get called."

Cook, however, said Favre never suggested to him he was maliciously targeted.

"That's part of football, getting hit," Cook said. "Brett never complained to me one way or another."

After the news broke Friday, tackle Joe Staley of the San Francisco 49er tweeted: "Just seeing all the reports about the Saints D. I knew there was something fishy about getting punched in the face during our playoff game"

The 49ers beat the Saints 36-32 in the NFC divisional playoffs.

Mutiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging Staging Exam Better ...

The following article was written by John Kurhanewicz, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and Director of the Prostate Cancer Imaging Group at UCSF.

UCSF?s world-renowned expertise in?prostate cancer and?spectroscopic imaging has led our?Prostate Cancer Imaging Group to develop a multiparametric?magnetic resonance imaging staging exam of prostate cancer.? This is a new FDA-approved technique that we uniquely provide at UCSF for?patients with prostate cancer who need more information about their disease so they can make the most appropriate?treatment decision and/or understand whether the therapy they?ve received is effective or not.? Many of the men who we scan already have a proven?cancer diagnosis, and we are trying to help them characterize the cancer ? to learn if it is an aggressive cancer or an indolent cancer.? The goal of the staging exam, in combination with?ultrasound-guided biopsies, is to give the patient more information about his individual disease so he can select the best therapeutic approach.

By way of background, most of the imaging that we do with MRI ? whether it be for prostate or other diseases ? is?anatomic imaging, where we look at the changes in anatomy or pathology with the presence and progression of the cancer.? During the past 20 years of our work in prostate cancer we found that anatomic imaging had great sensitivity for picking up the disease, but it was not very specific because factors other than cancer ??benign processes ? led to changes in our images that looked like cancer.

Because we needed to get more information from our scan, we worked on adding a functional imaging parameter in the form of metabolism and identified several metabolic markers, which helped us discriminate cancer from other benign processes.? The technique we developed was spectroscopic imaging, which allows us to look at metabolism in vivo.? So we developed a combination of proton anatomic imaging and proton spectroscopic imaging and produced a commercially available staging exam with?GE Healthcare.? That was our first step in helping men better characterize their prostate cancer so they could select what to do next more appropriately.

In addition to metabolism,?MRI now also allows us to look for additional pieces of information ?parameters ? that further characterize the cancer within the same exam; hence the name ?multiparametric.?? Another parameter that MRI allows us to look at is water?diffusion, which gives us a picture of the cellularity of the tissue.? We know that cellularity increases in cancer, and it changes after therapy as well.? The other MRI parameter that we are looking at is the perfusion of the tissue.? In cancer there must be an increased blood supply to deliver all the nutrients and oxygen required for the tumor to grow.? We can measure the increase in that vasculature or perfusion of the tumor relative to the tissue.? Both of these MRI parameters can be used not only for?cancer detection, but also to characterize the cancer.

Furthermore, once our tests help us decide whether this is a man who needs to be treated aggressively for prostate cancer, our multiparametric imaging exam can be used to determine which of the multiple therapies currently available is best for the individual man we?re treating.

For more information on?prostate?cancer screening at UCSF, please see?here.
