A former football player will help Texas Instruments Inc. today launch its annual Teachers Teaching with Technology International Conference and an actress will end it Sunday.

Former Dallas Cowboys player Leland Melvin also was an astronaut on board Space Shuttle Atlantis for two missions to the International Space Station. He holds a bachelor?s degree in chemistry and a master?s in materials science engineering.

Actress Mayim Bialik, who stars in the popular television comedy The Big Bang Theory and portrayed Blossom in a TV show of the same name, has a Ph.D in neuroscience. Last year, she wrote a book about parenting based on the science of hormones involved in parent-child bonding.

TI?s T3 conference in Philadelphia offers more than 400 training and discussion sessions for and by education leaders and math and science teachers.

The conference also will feature two new TI educational apps ? TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS (Computer Algebra System) ? designed to change how students visualize and interact with the math. Last month, I blogged abouy Dallas-based TI introducing the apps.
